A Science-Backed Habit That will Help You Conquer Worry

Are you a chronic worrier, if so, you’re not alone. About 86% of people in a survey described themselves as worriers. The research revealed we spend an average of 1 hour and 50 minutes worrying each day! That’s almost 13 hours a week of worrying.

But don’t fret… there is a solution!

Mindfulness is a simple science-backed habit that can change your life, and your mind, for the good!

Anyone can do it, anywhere, anytime. It’s totally free and doesn’t require any special equipment, props or clothing. In fact, so many people are practicing mindfulness, TIME Magazine featured mindfulness on its’ cover!

So what is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is defined as paying attention to the present moment without our projections or judgement.

Research shows that people who consistently practice mindfulness meditation actually rewire their brain structure. This can result in more happiness, health, mental and emotional control, resilience, confidence, joy and much less worry and rumination.

Many people experience positive benefits right away with lasting change resulting in just 8 weeks of daily minfulness meditation.

Here is a simple 5-minute practice you can start doing today.

  • Sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes.

  • Take 3 deep breaths in and out through your nose. This will help you get centered

Then BEGIN the mindfulness meditation:

  • breathe in through your nose.

  • Breathe out through your nose as you silently count ONE

  • Repeat, counting silently only on the EXHALE.

    • Breathe in, breathe out ONE

    • Breathe in, breathe out TWO

    • Breathe in, breathe out THREE

    • and so on…

THE BIG KEY: Whenever you notice your mind wandering away from the counting or breathing (which is normal), simply bring your attention back to the counting. Don’t judge it. Just practice. Pay attention with detachment, non-judgment and ease.

  • Anytime you start over (which WILL happen) start the counting over at ONE.

You can do ANYTHING for 5 minutes a day. Practice every day and notice how this changes your life in big and little ways. Work up to 20 minutes a day. Just do your BEST.
